Six Sarpanchs from Goa Appeal to PM for Immediate Resumption of Mining and Reinstatement of Lost Livelihoods

Claims Goa Foundation misleading policy makers and the judiciary in the name of representing the interests of the people of the state

The representatives of six Village Panchayats from the mining areas of Goa, namely Sanvordem, Collem, Kirlapal Dhabal, Kalay, Rivona and Pissurlem have made an appeal to the PM Modi, to give necessary directive to the policy makers for an immediate resumption of mining in the State of Goa.The public representatives of the village panchayats claim that the state of Goa has been consistently mis-represented by Goa Foundation, an NGO with various government departments and judiciary. These representatives earlier filed a representation to the Supreme Court of India also clarifying that Goa Foundation does not represent the sentiments of the people of Goa and even got the Law Minister of Goa to plead their case in front of the Supreme Court.

The village representatives have also urged to the Government of India and the State Government of Goa to take strict action against Goa Foundation for misleading the policy makers and causing immense harm to the interest of the people of the state. These village representatives are worried that the same NGO is now mis-representing and lobbying with the Office of the Prime Minister that the demands made by the local Government representatives namely, the Governor of Goa, Shri Satya Pal Malik and the Chief Minister of Goa, Shri Pramod Sawant  be disregarded. The Governor and the Chief Minister represent the voice of the people of Goa as the lawfully appointed and elected representatives and their views and stance is amply clear in the favour of an immediate resumption of mining so that more than 3 lakh livelihoods lost after the closure of mining in 2018 be reinstated immediately and their families can be saved from the misery of poverty.
